New(ish) URL shortner

I had no idea that Google offered it’s own URL shortner… how did I miss this? Of course, there’s even a Chrome extension for it.

The only issue I can see, for some people, is that your click-through stats are public. Personally, I don’t care about such things, but some people are secretive like that lol. The About.com article explains the public issue, and then there’s info for those of you saying “WTF are you talking about, Ging?”… over here.

The main reason I use these short URLs is because it helps save precious character space on services like Twitter. I could just as easily use the shortner provided by my WordPress install, but sites come and go… I figure my Google account will be with me forever.

I guess this has been around since 2010. It wasn’t available for public use right away though, and still isn’t linked to in any of the Google dashboards I’ve found which makes me feel a little better about only just discovering it recently. Just a little better, though lol.
