Digital art galleries are live

After many hours of work installing the NextGEN gallery plugin, my digital art gallery is up and running. As it happens, the plugin itself is very easy to install and use, my trouble started when we suffered a power outage when I was in the middle of uploading the files. One file name “off” by one character, and the whole site crashes, go figure! *smirk*
NextGEN Gallery is very well written, and once I understood the difference between “Album” and “Gallery”, it was easy to set up. (For those of you contemplating installing this plugin, you may have to reverse your traditional view of “gallery”, like I did, in order to understand the way NextGEN is set up.) I’ve posted one album with three galleries so far; Fractal Art, 3D Renders, and Digital Paintings.
Along with Albums and Galleries, the NextGEN Gallery plugin came bundled with a sidebar widget to display a slideshow. It worked perfectly, with only a little tweak for sizing. Overall, it was a painless process. The slideshow display isn’t perfect yet, but I’m sure that after I’ve had some sleep I’ll be able to tweak that to perfection too.
Next on my “to-do” list is posting a Design Portfolio gallery of the sites I’m currently managing. (Along with a few must have plugins for site management, which I’ll post about once they’re set up.) Then, I’ll be able to design a listing for my Ingenio page. The graphics for that are done, so it shouldn’t be too long at all before I’m back to updating the many other blog sites I manage. WordPress v2.6 works great as a fresh install, but I’m still cutting through some bugs for older WordPress version updates.
